About this work

“Fluctuat Nec Mergitur” is one of the first works created by the workshop. It is the portrait of five pelicans on the roof of a fishermen’s cabin in Portales Cove. There they live in a community, accustomed to feeding on fish scraps. Close to nature and the animal community, the fishermen face the capricious climate of the Pacific before dawn to be able to offer their products during the day. There is great collaboration between clients, fishermen and pelicans, since they all accompany each other and help each other to survive.

“Fluctuat nec Mergitur” (hit but not sunk) refers to the unity in the face of the waves that keeps the boat afloat. As Brassens interprets it in the song “Les copains d'abord” (Friends first), it is solidarity within the marine world.

About our screen prints

Their production begins with the development of the black and white analog photographic film. We create color layers that are added to the photograph and develop them on screen printing matrices. By combining inks and pigments, we create a special color range for each series. Finally, each copy is printed by hand, layer by layer.
